DioNeb Mission Opportunities

We believe it is the calling of all who follow Christ to proclaim, by word and example, the good news of God in Christ; and that we are to seek and serve Christ in all persons, respecting the dignity of every human being. The Church, the body of Christ in the world, does this through the ministry of all its members.

The Diocese of Nebraska strives to live into our calling to share and serve, with those in our local communities, and those beyond our borders. Over the last decade, parish volunteers have worked across the state, on the reservations of South Dakota, and in the Dominican Republic. While we have completed some wonderful projects, what we enjoy most about the trips we take are the people we encounter along the way, the relationships built as we work alongside our neighbor, and meeting Christ wherever we go.

Our upcoming trips for 2023 are:

  • Adult trip: Saturday, Apr. 15 - Friday, Apr. 21
  • Youth trip: Saturday, July 1 - Friday, July 7
  • Adult trip: Saturday, Nov. 4 - Friday, Nov. 10

Pilgrimage leaders are Fr. John Schaefer and Fr. Tom Jones. Both have extensive experience leading youth and adult trips to the Dominican Republic. Information on costs, locations, registration and what to expect will come in the new year. In the meantime, contact Fr. John Schaefer, Partners in Pilgrimage Coordinator, at jschaefer3@gmail.com if you have other questions, wish to be on the contact list, or to express a desire to go on a trip.

If your parish is offering a trip or pilgrimage, we would like to know so that we may list it for others to see. Also, if you are looking for an opportunity to serve, and none of the dates listed fit into your schedule, or you wish to learn how you can support a team or individual going on one of our trips, please email Fr. John and he will get back to you shortly.

 Our Companion Diocese

two-seals

The Diocese of Nebraska is actively engaged in mission to the world. As a part of that ministry, we have an active Companion Diocese partnership agreement with the Episcopal Diocese of the Dominican Republic. We send several mission teams to work alongside Episcopal congregations in the Dominican Republic each year, and participate fully in the work of the Dominican Development Group (DDG), a non-profit organization within The Episcopal Church that assists the Episcopal Diocese of the Dominican Republic with project planning, program development, and construction expertise; raises funds for the diocesan endowment; and coordinates the work of mission teams from the United States working in the Dominican Republic.

The weekly prayer cycle for the Diocese of the Dominican Republic can be found here. (Updated 9/6/18)
