Educational Preparation for Ordination

Priesthood

The standard preparation for ordination to the priesthood is a three-year program (90 hours) which leads to a Master of Divinity degree (M.Div.) at an accredited Episcopal seminary. You will need a Bachelor's degree in order to obtain an M.Div.

The Bishop primarily recommends the following seminaries:

General Theological Seminary, 440 West 21st Street, New York, NY 10011 (in Manhattan)

Virginia Theological Seminary, 3737 Seminary Road, Alexandria, VA 22304 (near Washington, D.C.)

 

Bi-Vocational Priesthood

Kemper School (Diocese of Kansas) offers theological education for bi-vocational preisthood on a three year track.

Iona School (Diocese of Texas) also offers theological training for bi-vocational priesthood on a three year track.

 

Diaconate

The diaconal preparation program takes two years of classes through cooperation with the Kemper School.
