The Episcopal Diocese of Nebraska's racial justice initiatives are grounded in Becoming Beloved Community, the Episcopal Church's commitment to racial healing and reconciliation.

Sacred Ground Circles

An 11-part film- and reading-based dialogue series on race, faith, and American history.

• Format: Virtual "circles" meeting bi-weekly via Zoom (mid-January to mid-June).
• Texts: Waking Up White (Debbie Irving) and Jesus and the Disinherited (Howard Thurman).
• Coordination: Lesley Dean Sims (lesleydean5403@gmail.com).

Commission & Action

• Racial Reconciliation Commission: Formed in early 2024 to coordinate continuing education on systemic racism. Chaired by Lesley Dean Sims (Church of the Resurrection, Omaha) and Co-Chaired by MJ Matthews (St. Andrew's, Omaha).
• Voter Registration Committee: Organized in June 2023 by "Monuments and Roads" pilgrimage alumni. Focuses on voter drives in North and South Omaha.
• History: Started in late 2020 after George Floyd's murder, initiated by a Women's Ministry webinar on Caroline Randall Williams' My Body is a Confederate Monument.
